Session#1 - Life is Choices

Session #1: Life is Choices

I – Welcome to your Journey towards Confirmation

-       For the next two years, you will be working and praying your way towards receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.

II – Life is Choices… What is a Choice?

-       How do you know you are making a good choice? We can see if the choice(s) we have made are good or bad by the consequences it brings (and even how we may feel about it).

-       What decisions have you made in the past 24 hours you think can impact your future? Everything from whether to get up in the morning on time, to your meals, your clothes, how you treat others, among other things is a choice YOU make. You are not able to control what others do, but you have a choice of how you will act/feel/react.

-       What decisions have OTHERS made that has made an impact in your life?

-       Reason & Conscience = two tools that we ALL possess, which helps us in the decision-making process. Please read pg. 4 for the definitions.

-       Free Will = is the gift God has given us to FREELY choose our next steps. Reason and Conscience are what guide us to make decisions.

III - The Best Way to Live – What do you think?

-       It is never too early to start thinking about this!

-       What do you think you will be when you grow up? What do you want? Some of you may think that you are too young to start thinking about this question, but time flies! And it always fun to DREAM!

-       There are three foundational principles on how to live your best life:

o   The Best Version of Yourself – Why would you want to be a copy when you can be an original? This best version is called sainthood. We are called to be Saints!

o   Virtue – they are acquired habits that can helps us live the best version of ourselves. Honesty is ALWAYS the best policy!

o   Self-Control – is one of the best ways for us not to become slaves to our bad habits. If do not master self-control, this can become a source of destruction in our lives.

IV – What have you heard about God?

-       Who is He? Who He’s NOT!

-       1st Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians Chapter 2, verse 9-10 gives us a glimpse of God's dream for us. There is the world’s vision, your vision, and then God’s vision!

o   Sometimes these three visions do not agree.

o   God created you in His image – there is a connection between being happy and our road to holiness.

V – The unlikeliest of callings.

-       Being a “rebel”, but not the way you think!

-       The difficult mission – going against the current. YOUR DECISIONS MATTER!

VI – HOMEWORK (due on 10/10/21) - Please answer the following questions:

-       Describe a time when you ignored your conscience and regretted it later. Describe a time when you listened to your conscience and you followed it, even though it was difficult.

-       What do you think about St. Joan of Arc's quote the first video mentions?

-       What are you hoping to learn this year about God?
